show.Rooms_global
show.Rooms_global is dedicated to a global dialogue on a marginalized topic and is realized in two countries.
The marginalized topic is not determined by the show.Rooms team, but by the cooperating artist group in the respective country. How is the country selected? The link to the other country is a so-called guide who has lived or worked in both Austria and that country for a longer period of time. This guide proposes the person or group as an artist group in the other country. The guide also acts as an accompanying person and, if necessary, as an interpreter.
A 1-2 week series of events is realized in a vacant space in which the artist or group of artists makes their chosen theme visible. In addition, schau.Räume offers biography workshops. After being realized in the respective country, the event is invited to Austria and also presented in a vacant space. Additionally, contributions from regional artists, scholars, and NGOs are included and biography workshops are also offered.
Through the realization of show.Rooms_global, a current dialogue in both countries on the chosen topic is sought. The aim is to create a "transcultural space" that explores the extent to which the topic under discussion is also experienced as marginalized in the respective cultural environment. Through this process, ethnic-national narratives are to be questioned: A transcultural aspect will be highlighted, making transparent the context dependency of tabooed topics in relation to communities and the contexts. Taking into account the "cross-cultural taboo-bound nature of social behavior", a dialogue is intended to transfer the artists' singular positions into a discursive, transcultural context.
