Migration
20. – 30. Mai 2011 Villach AT
show.Rooms_regional temporarily intervened in vacant business premises in Villach on the topic of migration and involved artists, scientists and NGOs in the region who work on the topic.
The venue for show.Rooms 11 was Lederergasse in Villach. A street that has been the subject of discriminatory media coverage with regard to migrants, an alleyway with empty objects, with a loud, dazzling night scene, an alleyway "that was no longer visited". In this alley, the first edition of show.Rooms was realized with the theme of migration. Under the title "Räume(n)", migration was addressed from a wide variety of perspectives and the empty spaces were filled with regional interdisciplinary contributions from art, sciences and associations. Every evening, the public was accompanied through these spaces in small groups and experienced installations, short performances and discussions. In total, these guided tours lasted around 1-2 hours. The audience was guided by guides who were personally affected by the topic of migration through their own life stories. They were prepared for their work as guides in biography workshops.
